Working within the R&D WW Commercialized Product Development (CPD) Team alongside other Engineers the Staff Engineer will maintain and provide technical support for the company? portfolio of released for sale products. The role will involve a broad range of activities for both internal and external customers and will include supporting Regulatory and Quality compliance projects, Manufacturing and Supply Chain projects, Sales and Marketing support through to the management of significant field safety actions. In addition to these duties there will be some need to work on new product development projects depending on business needs and resource availability.
Essential Functions:
Support technical requests from all areas of the business in relation to any of the company? released for sale product ranges.
Ensure design verification and validation is performed such as tolerance analysis, FEA, lab testing where appropriate to demonstrate that safety and efficacy are maintained through any design changes to existing products.
Perform routine product maintenance activities such as customer complaint investigations and post market surveillance reviews to ensure the on-going safety and efficacy of our products in the market.
Participate on cross functional project teams through all phases of the product development process from gathering initial customer requirements through to full product launch.
Deliver on project budget and timescales.
Leverage understanding of first engineering principles, advanced engineering methods and design and process excellence methodologies in order to influence the course of product development activities.
Demonstrate background in engineering investigations and problem solving, developing innovative solutions to complex problems.
Apply in-depth knowledge to lead specific tasks or activities to improve existing processes and to identify, propose, and implement solutions; provides technical guidance to others.
Is accountable for concept generation/evaluation activities, including defining unmet needs; interacts with different functions and/or doctors; supports data presentations to evaluate complex concepts for feasibility.
Ask appropriate questions to determine user needs; collaborate with others and determine 'need to have' versus 'nice to have' requirements and design outputs.
May be given responsibility as Project Leader for new product introduction or other types of development project.
Provide cover as required for other members of the team.
Provide a world-class service to internal and external customers.
May handle several projects concurrently depending in the magnitude of each.
Shall work within the WW R&D CPD Group which consists of Development Engineers, Project Engineers and Design Engineers.
Experience
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline is required; an advanced degree is a plus. A minimum of 8 years work experience in product design / development or engineering is required. Experience in design and development of medical devices (orthopedics) is an asset, with experience in hips, shoulders, and extremities preferred. Candidate must have demonstrated expertise in various types of mechanisms, materials, and GD&T. Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
Must be able to apply and comprehend a broad range of engineering and scientific assignments as well as have demonstrated the ability to lead a cross-functional group. Must be self-motivating and innovative and be able to work on multiple assignments with differing priorities. Working with Suppliers and/or vendors is required in this position. Experience working with influential customers is important in the position. Candidate must possess extensive verbal and technical writing skills as well as proven analytical and problem solving skills. This position may require up to 10% travel both domestic and international. This position will be based in Warsaw, IN.
